Along with the shorter days and cooler weather comes a season perfect for celebrating pasta. Who are we kidding? Every season is perfect for pasta! But we all know that fall’s abundant harvest brings us some tasty seasonal ingredients—worth every extra minute spent in the kitchen, if you ask me!

During the long and hot days of summer, I cook as little as possible and prepare lighter meals. Summer is great to take advantage of tasty ripe produce and I have a blast creating leafy green salads, homemade dressings and unique wraps with all my favorite ingredients. But by fall, I’m ready for some big warm meals and a little one-on-one time with the oven!
As a kid, I knew the season was on its way by the changing leaves, the cool and gusty air, but mostly by the amount of ruckus I overheard in our tiny kitchen on Taylor Avenue. My dad spent hours in there. From the kitchen came a lot of mumbling, the sharp clanging of pots and pans, cupboard doors squeaking open and then shut again. To me, he was making magic, because when he came out, he’d be carrying a steaming pan of our favorite pasta dish—Lasagna Bolognese! That is how we would celebrate, for sure.
How about you and your family? Anyone make an out-of-this-world dish of lasagna or baked pasta? Stuffed shells? Manicotti?
Depending on where you live, it’s peak time for loads of great ingredients. We love finding new ways to use squash in the kitchen. And there are so many varieties—pumpkins, butternut squash, green and yellow zucchini, winter squash. Besides squash, some of our other in-season favorites include: mushrooms, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts… well, you get the idea!
We’ve collected a few favorites to share with you in honor of this crisp and colorful autumn. Tell us about your fall-time experiences in the kitchen. Anything delicious?
