Fried & Stuffed Roman-Style Artichokes

A crispy, mouth-watering way to enjoy the pleasant, earthy taste of artichokes! Golden-brown and stuffed with mozzarella: serve them up with marinara for a fun, flavorful appetizer.

Ingredients:

  • 4 DeLallo Roman Style artichokes
  • 4 (1/2-inch) cubes mozzarella cheese or any melting cheese
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cups DeLallo Plain Breadcrumbs
  • DeLallo Extra Light Olive Oil, for frying
  • 1 cup DeLallo Imported Marinara Sauce, heated

Directions:

Blot the oil off of the artichokes with paper towels.  With a teaspoon, carve out a small space in the artichoke heart for the cheese.  Place a cube of cheese inside the heart.

Dip artichoke in flour, then the eggs and last, dredge in breadcrumbs.

Pour oil to a depth of 2 inches in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the breaded artichokes in hot oil, occasionally turning to cook each side evenly,  about 10 minutes on or until golden brown.  

Remove from the oil and place on paper towels to blot the excess oil.  

Place on a serving platter with a dish of warmed marinara sauce for dipping., if desired, and serve immediately.
