Espresso Powder

How-To Use Instant Espresso Powder

Kitchen Tips:

Instant Espresso Powder is an indispensable baking ingredient that heightens the rich, chocolatey presence of baked goods without adding a distinct coffee flavor. It is the perfect addition if you don’t want to splurge for an expensive cocoa powder or gourmet dark chocolate.

  • Add 1/2 to 2 teaspoons of Instant Espresso to baking recipes for added richness. Add more than 2 teaspoons for a coffee (mocha) flavor.
  • Make a single espresso coffee in an instant. Add 1 tablespoon of espresso powder to 4 tablespoons of hot water.
  • Perfect for making Dalgona Whipped Coffee: Whip together 2 tablespoons of espresso powder, 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of boiling water. Pour over 1/2 cup of cold milk.

Instant Espresso Powder FAQ

• What is espresso powder?

Espresso powder is made with rich espresso-roasted coffee beans. These espresso beans are ground, and then delicately brewed and dried. The resulting ground espresso is now ready to dissolve in hot water and easily mix into everyday recipes—both sweet and savory.

• What is espresso powder used for?

While it is famous for its starring role in the no-bake dessert, Tiramisu, instant espresso enhances the chocolate flavor in cookies, cakes, icings, puddings and candies without adding a distinct coffee flavor. In savory dishes like salsas, chili recipes and meat rubs, espresso powder is a brilliant balance to acidic, spicy and smoky flavors.

• Is INSTANT ESPRESSO POWDER the same as ESPRESSO POWDER?

Yes, both are made from dark-roasted coffee beans that are brewed, dried and ground into a fine powder. Some companies choose to use the word "instant," while others do not. Both are instant, meaning they can be added as dry powder to any liquid or wet batter with no brewing necessary. Espresso powder is not to be confused with actual espresso, which are just roasted beans that requires brewing. This espresso is not instant and will not easily dissolve into your recipes.

Can instant coffee replace espresso powder?

No, instant espresso powder is much more concentrated than instant coffee and with a more intense flavor; therefore, less espresso powder is needed. In addition, instant coffee is usually produced in a larger granular form, where espresso powder is ground finely, helping it to dissolve readily in your recipes. Likewise, espresso powder is not an instant coffee substitute.

• What can I substitute if I don’t have Instant Espresso Powder?

Instant espresso powder is used as an ingredient to enhance flavors, so in most cases, you can omit it from the recipe. You can also try instant coffee, but you will need about 50% more.

• Does espresso powder have caffeine?

We guarantee a minimum of 1.8% caffeine in our product. For example, in a serving size of 2g, there would be about 36mg of caffeine. As for the calories, they come from carbohydrates, so there is slightly over 1g of carbs per serving.

• Where can I buy espresso powder?

Look in your local supermarket in the baking aisle or the coffee aisle. You can also buy online here and we will ship it directly to your door.
