DeLallo Muenster Cheese Wedge is an eye-catching cow’s milk cheese with a pale yellow color and a distinct orange rind from a dusting of paprika. Muenster is mellow and buttery with a mild briny tang. As a semi-soft cheese, its texture is smooth and creamy. Muenster is an exquisite melting cheese too. More than just a beautiful entertaining cheese for charcuterie boards, it is a great cheese for kitchen creations—from baked pasta to burgers.
Muenster cheese is a recipe-friendly favorite with superior meltability making it perfect for everything from sandwiches, subs and burgers to baked pasta, grilled cheese sandwiches and cheese baked chicken recipes. As an entertaining cheese, its distinct orange rind makes it an eye-catching classic to serve with cured meats, olives, pickled peppers, gourmet crackers and other antipasto favorites.
There are two types of Muenster cheese: the American version and the original French cheese. The Muenster cheese originating in the Alsace region France is a washed rind cheese, an unpasteurized cow’s milk cheese with a strong flavor. French Muenster is aged longer to develop its flavor. Though it has that signature orange rind, the American version uses paprika to give it its color. Made in the United States, American Muenster is pale yellow with a mild, mellow, even buttery flavor. Its briny tang is much less pronounced.
The American Muenster, like our DeLallo Muenster Cheese, is mellow and buttery with a mild tang.
Yes, Muenster cheese is an exquisite melting cheese. It’s perfect for burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, baked pasta, cheesy chicken dishes and more.
Both mozzarella and Muenster cheeses are pale in color with a creamy texture and mellow flavor. Muenster is a bit richer in flavor, while mozzarella is a bit more mellow. Both cheeses melt well, but mozzarella is more elastic and snappy in texture. Muenster is a bit more creamy. These cheeses originate from two different countries (France and Italy respectively), but both are made in the United States too.
Muenster cheese and Swiss cheese are very different cheeses from their appearance to their flavor and firmness. Muenster is soft, creamy and mellow in flavor, while Swiss cheese is semi-firm with a nutty, tangier flavor. While both cheeses melt, Swiss keeps its firmness and isn’t as creamy as Muenster. Swiss cheese is distinct in its appearance, as it contains holes throughout.
Muenster is an eye-catching cheese with a lovable, mild flavor making it perfect for entertaining on cheese boards and charcuterie plates. Pair it up with meats, other cheeses and briny antipasti like olives and pickles. Its ability to melt beautifully makes it perfect for burgers, baked pasta, pizza, cheesy chicken dishes, grilled cheese sandwiches and more.
