There are many names for the Italian hoagie: grinder, sub, hero—to name a few. No matter what you call them, it’s easy to love them just the same: that signature soft and crusty hoagie roll, generous layers of savory meats, creamy provolone cheese, crisp iceberg lettuce and juicy tomato slices.

Ingredients

  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 head iceburg lettuce, finely shredded
  • 1 pound boiled ham
  • 1 pound Genoa salami
  • 1 pound mortadella
  • 1 pound deli-sliced provolone cheese
  • 3-4 tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 (16-ounce) jar Mild Chicago Style Giardiniera, drained

Directions

  • Split each roll lengthwise.
  • On the bottom half of each roll, layer the lettuce, meat, cheese and tomatoes.
  • Top with the giardiniera.
  • Place the top half of the roll on top of the sandwich.
  • Serve with red wine vinegar and oregano, or your favorite dressing or condiment.
