  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain, reserving 1 cup of pasta water.
  • Meanwhile, heat skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage. Cook until browned, breaking into smaller pieces with a wooden spoon.
  • Stir in the tomato purée, paste and ½ cup of water into the sausage and cook on medium heat for 20 minutes.
  • Add hot cooked pasta into the pan with the sauce. Stir to coat. (Add hot starchy pasta water to thin the sauce, as desired).
  • Divide into serving dishes. Serve sprinkled with fresh basil and Parmigiano-Reggiano.
